Hadley is one of ten puppies that came to HHS needing a new home.  These adorable babies are Akita mixes and are going to be a very large dog when full grown.  Please do research on this breed before deciding to add one to your family.  Successfully raising Akita pups requires a lot of socialization with lots of different people, animals, and situations.  Even though they are best as an only pet, if properly socialized at a young age, it is possible to have another non-dominant dog in the home.  They will chase other pets.  Generally best in homes with older children as they are very loyal guardians but children must be supervised and taught how to be respectful and kind. They do require daily exercise but are not overly hyper, so even a couple long walks a day is good - but also give them plenty of activities to keep from getting bored - teach them commands, give them interactive toys, etc.   They would be best in homes that have securely fenced yards.  Training starting at this young age is essential - and because of their loyalty and bonding, it should be done by the owner, not sent to a training facility.  Under direction of a professional trainer is good, but owner must be active participant. Positive reinforcement is the only way to train, as using harsh methods can have negative results.   Plan on spending lots of family time with them as they are very social and will become destructive if bored.  These puppies all have vastly different personalities and we are just learning more about them every day.  Some are more shy than others and some are a bit more outgoing, but all are incredibly adorable.  Please call for more information on these pups.
